Sunset Color House

When this young San Francisco family approached us, they needed a home that could come together quickly without feeling temporary or generic. With a fast move-in timeline and a desire for a modern, colorful environment, the project became an exercise in balancing efficiency with personality.

Located in the Sunset District, the home was designed around light, color, and everyday living. Strong blue tones anchor many of the spaces, creating continuity throughout the interiors, while mustard yellows, warm woods, charcoal finishes, and textured materials bring warmth and depth. The clients’ love for music and contemporary design inspired sculptural lighting, bold artwork, and expressive furniture selections that give the home its distinctive character.

Because timing was critical, we combined fast-delivery pieces with carefully curated statement elements and custom details that elevated the overall design. The result feels layered and intentional rather than rushed. Curved furniture softens the architecture, wall treatments add dimension, and playful moments throughout the house create an atmosphere that feels creative, modern, and relaxed.

Throughout the home, we also used bold color blocking as an architectural tool. In transitional areas like the hallway, large saturated planes of color were introduced to create movement, rhythm, and visual complexity within otherwise simple circulation spaces. These interventions help guide the eye through the home while adding an unexpected artistic quality to the everyday experience of moving through it.

Hallway color blocks

One of the most transformative interventions happened in the interior light well, originally a narrow and uninspiring space with little visual interest. By covering the surrounding walls with dense artificial greenery, we transformed it into an unexpected organic moment within the home. The vertical garden effect softens the architecture, introduces texture and depth, and creates a small intimate seating area that feels calm, lush, and immersive despite the compact footprint.

The project also reflects the realities of designing for a young family. Spaces needed to feel sophisticated while remaining functional, durable, and adaptable for daily life. From the calming nursery to the vibrant living spaces and outdoor entertaining areas, every room was designed to support both connection and comfort.

This project is a reminder that thoughtful design does not have to rely on endless timelines. With the right balance of creativity, flexibility, and curation, a home can feel deeply personal from day one.
